Julianna's Quinceañera

First of all, I was overcome by the magic of Juli's day! She truly looked like a Princess right out of a Fairytale! I loved her colors, her setup, and most of all, her heart!

When I was asking Juli about how she chose her theme for her quinceañera, I LOVED her answer. She told me she chose her theme because she pictured her Aunts in beautiful dresses that made them look like the were each stunning flowers in a bouquet. She explained that each of her Aunts has had such a big impact on her life that she wanted to thank them for how they nurtured her to grow into her own beautiful flower.

I have always been curious how flowers develop their colors. as I've looked into this i found that their are a variety of factors that contribute of the coloration and vibrancy of each flower. The flowers variance in color is derived from pigments classes, the "Anthocyanins and carotenoids are the main sources of flower coloration, but there are other factors that can affect how colors present themselves. The amount of light flowers receive while they grow, the temperature of the environment around them, even the pH level of the soil in which they grow can affect their coloration. Another factor is stress from the environment. This stress can include a drought or a flood or even a lack of nutrition in the soil, all of which can dampen the coloration of flowers. And then, of course, there is the visual that the eye and brain form together: humans can, for the most part, view all colors in the visible spectrum, BUT every human perceives color differently, so a red rose may appear more vibrant to one person while it appears more muted to another. Beauty (and color!) is in the eye of the beholder.

People, just like flowers, have the potential to bloom brightly, we bloom the brightest when we have others nurture us a long the way. What impressed me most about Juli's relationship with her aunts was that they were willing to share some of their vibrancy with her which helped Juli shine all the brighter.

It made me reflect: do we nurture and share our light with others so that they can flourish and shine bright? I invite each of us to reflect on how the people in our lives have nurtured us into our beautiful lives. We have all been nurtured to blossom in different seasons. Just because some bloom late and some bloom early does not mean that each bloom is any less beautiful. We have all had to fight battles to bloom and I love the quote from Mulan:

"The flower that blooms in adversity, is the rarest and most beautiful of all"

If you feel like you're being buried by life, I challenge you to reframe your situation. Maybe you are being planted to thrive! I invite you to bloom where you are planted and then share your goodness with those around you.

We all have the power to "cross pollenate" with each other to help each other shine vibrantly. Don't be afraid to shine yourself! I know that as you shine, you will inspire others!
